[ 1 Cor 10:11] These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the end of the ages has come.

Consistency of God working through 1 person / 1 nation to reach out to an entire generation/the whole world

6000 years of God's history
Shincheonji Class Notes: Timeline from Adam all the way to the 1st & 2nd coming

There are different contents in the bible - one of which is history. As per the verse from 1 Corinthians 10:11, history serves as an example and warning for us today.

In each generation throughout 6000 years of God's history, there was a promise/covenant given. However, each generation failed to keep the covenant and so the covenant was broken (Refer to blog post of 3 'C's of a Covenant).

We need to know why each generation failed to keep the covenant so that we do not repeat the same mistakes today.

What mistakes did each generation make which broke the covenant?

Adam's Era

  • Covenant: Do not eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil.

  • Mistake Adam Made: Listened to Eve > God, ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil

  • Mistake Eve Made: Eve was not clear of God's instructions, hence she got tricked by satan

  • Reference: Genesis 2-3

Lesson for us today:
1) Will we listen to God > man?
2) Are we clear of God's promises?
Reference verse for (2) --> [Hosea 4:6]
My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
“Because you have rejected knowledge,
 I also reject you as my priests;
because you have ignored the law of your God,
I also will ignore your children.
Garden of Eden

Noah's Era

  • Covenant: (1) Build the Ark; (2) Fill the Earth

  • Mistake Noah's Descendants Made: Tower of Babel, did not want to be scattered / did not want to "fill the earth" ps: Noah kept the covenant and died righteous

  • Reference: Genesis 6, 11:1-9

Lesson for us today:
Will we have God's way above our own ways?
Reference verse --> [Isa 55: 8-9]
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Moses' Era

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.

  2. You shall make no idols.

  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

  4. Keep the Sabbath day holy.

  5. Honor your father and your mother.

  6. You shall not murder.

  7. You shall not commit adultery.

  8. You shall not steal.

  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

  10. You shall not covet.

  • Mistake 1st generation of Israelites Made: Focused on their fears/wants > God (golden calf, which broke #1 of the 10 Commandments, rebelled in the desert 10 times)

  • Reference: Exodus 32:1-10 ; Numbers 14:20-23

Lesson for us today:
Will we focus on our fears/wants or trust God?

Solomon's Era

  • Covenant: 10 Commandments

  • Mistake Solomon Made: Loved the world/foreign women > God; broke the covenant with God for good

  • Reference: 1 Kings 10:11

Lesson for us today:
Will we love God >>> the world?
Religion or Relationship with God
Religion or Relationship with God ^

1st Coming

  • Covenant: Promise of Messiah, go to Jesus

  • Mistake Religious Leaders Made: Loved money; Held on to traditions >> God (study God's word but refuse to accept; worship taught by men)

  • Reference: Mark 7:1-13 , Luke 16:14

Lesson for us today:
Will we love God >>> money / traditions?
Light up the Sky
1st Coming: Light entered the world of darkness ^

2nd coming

  • Covenant: Matt 24 --> e.g. "Flee to the mountains" ; Revelation ps: there is a spiritual meaning for "mountain"; the book of Revelation is a parable for Christians today to understand & keep the covenant of our time

  • Reference: Matt 24:15-16

Lesson for us today:
Will we keep God's covenant today?

2 outcomes for Christians

1. Well done good and faithful servant

[Matt 25:23] His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!

2. I never knew you, depart from me you workers of lawlessness

[Matt 7:21-23] “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!

Needless to say, every "true believer" will want to be acknowledged by God at the end of their lives. We will want to be with God in paradise, rather than be in a place with weeping and gnashing of teeth.
